What the new regulation covers

Regulation (EU) 2024/1157 governs shipments of waste between Member States, imports into the Union, exports from it and transit through it Art. 2(1). It has applied since 21 May 2026 Art. 86(2) and is directly applicable in every Member State. Until then, the old Regulation (EC) 1013/2006 largely continued to apply Art. 85(2). Transport that stays entirely within Austria is not covered; only Article 36 applies to it, which leaves its control to the Member States Art. 2(5).
